Course Description
The correctness of Aqeedah is the most fundamental of principles in Islam, all subsequent acts of worship in Islam depend upon it, as Allah says in the Qur’an:
“But if they had joined in worship others with Allah, all that they used to do would have been of no benefit to them.” – Al-An’am 6:88
Aqeedah is the word for creed; it encompasses articles of faith that every young or adult muslim should know and believe. To be a Muslim without an understanding of Aqeedah is akin to be a pilot who does not know how his or her plane flies. It leaves one aimless and without a clear understanding the most important matter of life and faith. In this Aqeedah online course, students will learn the basic of Islam including belief in Allah and Tawheed (monotheism) upon the understanding of the Salaf.
Assignments
Course content will be presented through online lessons, online group discussion, and reading assignments. The student will be responsible to participate on a weekly basis in course activities as will be indicated by the instructor teaching the class.
Course Objectives
The main objective of this course is to ground the student in this most fundamental of Islamic sciences, ensuring that the student will be able to:
- Identify and recognize the creed of the early generations of Muslims.
- Briefly evaluate and study the creed that was held by the Salaf.
- Assess different divergent doctrines that were present during and before their time.
- Gain an appreciation of the rebuttal of deviant doctrines by the classical scholars of the past.

Competency Assessment
You will have several opportunities to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the principles taught in this course. The primary means of evaluating your work will be through the mini-quizzes, discussions, and final exam of the course. This course will require readings from the textbook, viewing lectures and materials related to the course, participation in discussion forums and activities, a weekly mini-quiz and final exam.
Participation:
Participation is crucial in enhancing the learning environment within an online course. All students are expected to be active participants in group discussions at least one time per week. Participation is encouraged and could be as simple as asking question, answering questions asked by the instructor, reading the text to the instructor that will explain it and engage in discussions on topics presented by the instructor.
