Q&A Related To Usury – Shaykh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli(حفظه الله)
Questioner: May Allah protect you Sheikh, A brother purchased a house with usury (interest) money and after that, converted it to a business asset and he rents it out (as a form of profit). So he is asking, does he have to pay the obligatory charity (Zakat) from the money earned from the rent money?
Sheikh Sulayman (May Allaah protect him) Has he repented to Allah from this action?
Questioner: He did not state anything Sheikh…
Sheikh Sulayman Ar-Ruhayli (May Allaah protect him) Whatever the case may be, if the money earned from the rent has been in his possession for a year and it, together with his other assets, have reached the Nisab (The prescribed limit upon the diferent types of wealth for zakat to become obligated), then he gives the Zakat from it.
The Sheikh (May Allaah protect him) continues: If he was to repent to Allah, he should especially increase in giving out charity as charity is in the same form and classification of the sin he has committed (Money) and it shoud benefit him if Allah wills.
Questioner: May Allaah reward you Sheikh.
