A STORY ABOUT THE ACCESSIBILITY OF SEEKING KNOWLEDGE.
-By Shaykh Abdur Razzaq ibn Abdul Muhsin Al-Badr.

I recall in one of the western countries, I met four young men and they used to work in a tailor shop for clothing. Young Moroccan men that worked in a tailor shop in a western country. Afterwards they sat with me and they would pose to me questions indicating a connection to (Islamic) knowledge. Not indicating that they were those with a particularity to their work life only, possessing no Islamic knowledge with them. In fact they would pose questions indicating that they had a connection to (islamic) knowledge. They would ask questions like those of a student of knowledge. So I was astonished by their situation.

So I said to them, “I see with you a spirit of knowledge and knowledge based questions, so where did you attain this from?”

They said to me, “We have had for merely two years a weekly class with Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen”– while the Shaykh was alive (RahimaUllah)

So I asked, “Do you call the Shaykh (Ibn Uthaymeen) every week and he dictates to you a class?”

They replied, “No, we have all the recordings of his explanation of Bulugh Al-Maraam and we all sit every week and listen to one recording after Maghrib.”

One recording after Maghrib done weekly, in one year, how many classes would they be able to complete? How many weeks are there in a year?

A month has 4 weeks and there are 12 months in a year.

More than 50 or 60 classes.

48 classes or 50 classes roughly in a year.

In 2 years or 3 years they completed Bulugh Al-Maraam in totality with the Shaykh (Ibn Uthaymeen). They are studying weekly however they are consistent. They say, “We have weekly classes with Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen in the book Bulugh Al-Maraam.”

And their approach (to their studies) would be that they would get together after Maghrib and they would listen to the recording and they would have the book (Bulugh Al-Maraam) and would pen down notes of the commentaries and remarks of the Shaykh. And they would ask one of them to listen to the recording before them and to prepare questions based on the recording. And they said, “When we finish (listening to the recording) one of us will begin to ask us what we learnt from the recording.”

They said, “We would sit for approximately half an hour and would revise what we learnt from the recording through the questions of our companion.”

So they attained great good.

I recall that I met with Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen afterwards and I mentioned to him that I found four of your students in so and so country and I mentioned this news to him and he smiled.

May Allah have mercy on him and forgive him and all of our scholars.

This example is to illustrate that one is able by the will of Allah through the means made easy today to attain good.
